Exciting things are happening at the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation!

The Grace and Phil Edelman Scholarship recipients have been selected for 2025-26!

The Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation recently awarded 15 scholarships totaling $31,000 to Southeast Alaska students through the Grace and Phil Edelman Health Sciences Scholarship program. The scholarship program supports the education and development of Southeast Alaska students pursuing degrees in any field of health science. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding academic performance and leadership among peers in the community, with preference for graduate-level and professional degree candidates intending to return to Southeast upon completion of their studies.

“The Bartlett Foundation is honored to award this scholarship to students in Southeast Alaska,” said Melissa McCormick, the Foundation’s Executive Director. “The Edelman Health Sciences Scholarship is an investment in our communities. This scholarship doesn’t just help individual students, it also strengthens the entire healthcare ecosystem by ensuring that our Southeast Alaska neighbors have access to skilled, compassionate care.”

The 2025-2026 awardees are:

Apaskasi Luka and Amanda Moser-Schmitz will be studying Nursing at Alaska Pacific University. Kristina McDougal will be working on her Masters of Science in Nursing at Ohio University. Elizabeth Plett will be attending Gonzaga University and working towards her Masters of Science Family Nurse Practitioner. Alejandra Orihuela Silva will continue her studies in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Benjamin Undurraga will be attending the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and studying for his Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD). Skye Deal from Ketchikan will be studying Nursing at Linfield University.

Carlynn Casperson, Adella Dihle, Jenna Dobson, Mikaela Levy, Jean-Luc Lewis, Spring Pattison, Kiah Dihle, and Courtney Taber are returning Edelman Scholars and will be receiving continued education scholarships. Since its inception in 2009, the Edelman Scholarship program has awarded $370,750 to Southeast Alaska students pursuing health science degrees. In 2024, the Bartlett Foundation contributed more than $150,000 to support staff trainings, education, internships, and more at Bartlett Regional Hospital. As of July 2025, we have contributed over $55,000 so far in these areas.
