The following individuals are honored through recognition of the Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation.

We feel priveleged to be able to honor the memory of those so dear to the hearts of many and celebrate their legacy for years to come.


About Mike

Michael Searls Gelston was born in Oakland, California on April 21st, 1941 to Arthur and May Elizabeth Gelston. In June of 1968, Mike and his wife Bev moved to Juneau with their first born son. He was hired as a patrol officer in the Juneau Police Department. In 1974 Mike attended the Southern Police Institute where he graduated first in his class and promoted to Lieutenant at JPD. In March 1976, Mike left the department and opened Mike's Union 76 service station across the street of the airport where he worked for the rest of his years. In September 1979, Mike returned to the department and promoted to Captain followed by Chief of Police in June 1985. He also founded and operated in Glacier Muffler and Towing. He promptly retired from JPD in July 1993. His last job was as a security officer for the U.S. District Court in Juneau from 2010-2016. Mike passed away peacefully on December 31st, 2020 with his family by his side.

About Joe

Joe Riederer died quietly June 6, 2021 with family by his side at the Sitka Pioneers Home. Joe was born in Ketchikan, and met his lifetime sweetheart Jean Wickward when they were 15. They were married five years later and celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. They raised 8 children in their home full of happiness, discipline and love. Joe served in the army before attending Loma Linda University School of Medicine and moved to Juneau in 1961. He practiced medicine there for more than 45 years. He was a commercial fisherman before and after his medical career.

About Tim

Joseph Timothy “Tim” Whiting was born on July 18th, 1947 in Juneau, Alaska to Joe and Gerry Whiting. Growing up, he spent his childhood fishing, hunting and trapping game with his father. He began hunting at 10, commercial fishing at 12 and owning his own boat by the age of 15. Tim graduated from JDHS in 1965 where he then went on to spend a semester at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Shortly after, he worked many jobs ranging from military service, janitorial to delivery driver to a waiter on the Matanuska ferry. In 1982, he accepted the job offer of Floor Manager at Foodland Market where he later became owner and president of the corporation. In 1985 he married Barbara Sanderson, spending 35 wonderful years together. During that time, Tim sold Foodland which would lead him to build apartment buildings, work part-time at a print shop and travel through 49 of the 50 states with Barb. Tim died peacefully on April 25th, 2021 after many wonderful years of life. Tim was a lifetime member of the Juneau Golf Club, Juneau Yacht Club, Pioneers of Alaska and a member of the Trail Mix of Juneau.

About William

1928 - 2021

William George Brock, formerly of Juneau, Alaska and Centennial, Colorado passed in his sleep on February 6th, 2021. He was true gentlemen made of uncompromising integrity and flawless moral ethics. “Bill” was born December 6th, 1928 in Dallas, Oregon to Guy Glen and Sarah Jennie Brock. Bill moved to the beautiful state of Oregon to attend Linfield college where he met the love of his life. Bill and Carol Sharp met at Linfield in 1947 and got married shortly after on August 19th, 1950. During this time, Bill graduated with a degree in business and finance that would later move him and Carol across the country. For the next twenty four years, they moved to Seattle, Fairbanks, San Francisco, Los Angeles and finally Juneau, Alaska arriving on the State Ferry: The Columbia, in Auke Bay on January 4th, 1974.

About Carol

1928 - 2019

Carol June Brock, formerly of Juneau, Alaska and most recently of Centennial, Colorado passed in her sleep on June 11, 2019 in the presence of her family. A dedicated, wonderful mother and community volunteer, Carol was born May 24, 1928 in Bremerton, Washington. Her parents, Charles H. "Bud" Sharp and Stella May Sharp, who both passed at St. Ann's Nursing Home in Juneau, were very close to her and moved many times as Carol's family moved throughout the western states. Carol grew up in Bremerton surrounded by the naval shipyards and the activities generated by World War II. She attended Linfield College in Oregon for two years, then transferred to the University of Washington where she was a drum major for the University Marching Band and graduated with a degree in primary education. Upon graduation she married William Brock.

About Mary Lee

Lifelong Douglas resident Mary Lee Isaak passed away Monday 9/27/2021 surrounded by her family in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born 12/29/1948 in Juneau Alaska to Donald & Norma Jean Peterson. She lived all of her 72 years in Douglas, Alaska. She married her High School sweetheart John Isaak in 1967 at the Douglas Methodist church and had 3 children. She enjoyed traveling, ceramics, cooking, & spending time with her family. Her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren were her greatest joys. She had such a giving heart & work ethic that was undeniable. She loved to spoil all of her family and friends. She got go much enjoyment out of making others happy. She will be greatly missed and will surely leave a hole in the hearts of everyone that knew her.

The loss is immeasurable but so is the love left behind

Dee Dee had the belief of living life to the fullest and she did just that right up until her final illness. Dee Dee never met a stranger, always saw the glass as half full, and worried more about others than she did about herself. She was witty, loving and loyal to friends and family.

Fritz Moser 1958 - 2022

About Fritz

Fritz Moser, loving husband and father, passed away unexpectedly at age 63 on Saturday, June 4, 2022 in Anchorage, Alaska. Fritz had a love and light that showed through in his conversations and actions and he touched the lives of everyone that had the good fortune of knowing him. He was deeply devoted to his wife and family, and above all, cherished laughing and spending time with them. He was passionate about mountain biking, trail stewardship, skiing, and fishing, and he also enjoyed whale watching, hiking, and paddle boarding with his wife. Fritz never knew a stranger. He cherished each of his many friendships and always had a story to share. Even in his passing, his ever-positive personality and altruistic character will continue to shine on his treasured community.
